WORKING WITH A JUDGE:

Hello APALSA,
I'm writing to encourage any 1Ls or 2Ls thinking about working for a judge this summer to apply to Judge Lindsay at the federal District Court in Boston. I'm clerking for him this year, and he is truly an amazing human being. He's very engaged with his clerks and interns on a personal level, having lunch with us every day and sharing his stories about coming of age as a black man in the south during the civil rights era and his thoughts on pretty much anything. On a professional level, an internship with him would be very rewarding. He regularly relies on clerks and interns in making decisions; we attend court proceedings as often as we wish, and he often breaks in the middle of sentencing or a trial to solicit our opinions. Interns do substantive work, including plea memos and bench memos to assist the judge in preparing for hearings.
I believe the judge has begun to receive resumes and cover letters for the summer, but I don't think his hiring really gets underway before January. If anyone is interested in learning more about working for Judge Lindsay, please feel free to contact me. Also, please forward to LALSA, SALSA, APALSA, Lambda, ACS, and/or other listservs that may reach other interested folks.
Thanks,
Amy Reichbach, BCLS '05
