Warner Norcross & Judd

TO: Boston University APALSA 2L Students

RE: “Fun, Pride and Profit”

Warner Norcross & Judd offers the rare combination of a sophisticated practice that still leaves time for a life outside of the office. As a result, we are one of two firms in Michigan, and one of only 115 firms in the nation to be named in America's Greatest Places To Work With A Law Degree. Forty percent of the firm's partners are listed in The Best Lawyers in America. In addition, we are included in 2006 Edition of The Vault Guide to the Top Chicago and Midwest Law Firms.

We are currently accepting resumes from 2L students interested in 2007 summer clerkships in any of our four Michigan offices – Metro Detroit (Southfield), Grand Rapids, Muskegon or Holland. I encourage you to learn more about who we are and what we do by reading our web site at www.wnj.com.

We Would Like to Hear from You

Although we are not able to visit the Boston College campus this fall, we hope you will send us your resume apart from that process. To apply for a clerkship, please send a cover letter, your resume and a copy of your law school transcript to me at the following address or email. I look forward to hearing from you!

Law Clerk Positions

LAW STUDENT CLERKS NEEDED (FULL OR PART-TIME)

Mission
The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights champions the legal rights of people of color, poor people, immigrants and refugees, with a special commitment to African Americans.

History
The Committee is affiliated with the national Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, begun in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy. San Francisco’s office was founded by leading members of the San Francisco Bar in 1968, shortly after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The Lawyers' Committee --with the assistance of hundreds of pro bono attorneys--provides free legal assistance and representation to individuals on civil legal matters. In addition, the Lawyers' Committee handles policy impact cases in the areas of Race, Poverty, and Immigration.

Internships Under the supervision of an attorney, the law clerk will prepare legal memoranda, conduct legal research, perform other litigation and non-litigation related legal assignments, and conduct client interviews. Clerks also participate in legal staff meetings.

Law clerks work in all of our issue areas (race, immigration, poverty). If you have a particular interest in homelessness/poverty issues or our African-American Agenda, please indicate this in your cover letter – there may be an opportunity to work with staff on special projects in these areas.

Summer law clerks are ordinarily expected to work 37.5 hours per week for 10 weeks. During the semester, law clerks are expected to work at least 15 hours per week. We encourage clerks to seek academic credit or independent funding for their work.

Law clerks at the Lawyers' Committee may be considered in the future for post-graduate fellowships at the Lawyers’ Committee, including our Thurgood Marshall Fellowship and sponsorship for the Skadden and Equal Justice Works Fellowships.

To Apply Send a cover letter, resume, and three references to the attention of Silvia Contreras to the following address: Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the S. F. Bay Area, 131 Steuart Street, Ste. 400, San Francisco, CA 94105.

Summer: September 1 – March 15

Fall semester: February 1 – September 1

Spring semester: August 1 - January 1

Public Interest Retreat

Boston College Law School
2nd Annual
Public Interest Retreat
September 15-17, 2006
Last spring, BC Law School held its first annual Public Interest Retreat, bringing together an amazing bunch of students committed to developing careers in public interest law for a weekend of reflection, camaraderie, mutual support, and professional sustenance. This year, we’re holding the event in the fall in order to start the year off right. While others suit up for law firm interviews, we’ll take some time to build our own path toward work in the common good.
We hope you’ll join us! This year’s Public Interest Retreat will be held the weekend of September 15-17 (Friday evening to Sunday morning) at BC’s new retreat center in Dover, Massachusetts, a short 20 minute drive from the law school. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with other public interest-minded students and faculty, meet alumni, hear inspiring speakers, and think about the many ways in which the law can be used as a tool for social change. In addition to speakers and discussion sessions, the schedule will also provide ample time for participants to interact informally and reflect on their experiences and career goals.
BC’s Public Interest Retreat is student-initiated and student-led. We are fortunate to receive generous support from the Law School Fund. Thanks to that support, the entire weekend will be free for participants. We have room for up to 30 students to attend.
To attend the Public Interest Retreat, please send a brief statement (1-2 paragraphs) to Gavi Wolfe at wolfegb@bc.edu about why you want to participate in the retreat, and how and why you see yourself using your legal education to serve the public interest. Applications must be received by Monday, September 4. Retreat participants will be selected by lottery.
