HELP CALL ADMITTED STUDENTS!

Hey APALSA members:

During the next couple months, we will be calling prospective students who identify as APA to answer any questions they may have about BC Law, APALSA, student organizations on campus, diversity, etc. Deciding where to go to law school is a big step, and one of the best ways to get to know a program is to talk to its current students. We need volunteers to relay their experiences at BC Law! If you're interested in calling a few students (just 3 or 4), please contact Jane Qin at qinja@bc.edu. Please include in your e-mail your undergraduate institution and home state so she can best match you up with prospective students.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Immigration Volunteer Opportunity

hi,

you're receiving this email because we thought you might be interested in helping the victims of last week's immigration raid in new bedford. as you likely know, last tuesday immigration officials surrounded and entered a factory in new bedford in southern mass. and detained over 350 immigrants working there. many of the immigrants were sole or primary caregivers and their confinement resulted in at least 60 children being left alone or without adequate care. federal officials have moved about 200 of the detainees to the immigration detention centers in texas, including the one near harlingen, texas, where some of you went as part of the immigration service trip.

several community organizations, including legal services organizations, are trying to locate people and determine legal strategies. there are a few organizations in new bedford and boston in need of help from law students. bilingual (spanish-english) law students are especially needed given that most of the immigrants detained are from el salvador or guatemala. knowledge of immigration law is not necessary.

in new bedford, catholic social services and another organization could use up to 4 volunteers per day. in boston, the mira (mass. immigrant and refugee advocacy) coalition can use up to 3 per day. it would be great to have people volunteer for an entire day, but if that's not possible for you a shorter commitment is welcomed. volunteer needs for this weekend are still being worked out as the emphasis on saturday is to have a large turnout at the demonstration on saturday afternoon in new bedford. also, it would be great to carpool to new bedford so we are looking for people who have a car and are willing to drive others.

if you can volunteer let me know by sending me an email at garciacn@bc.edu. include a) the dates and times you're available; b) whether you can volunteer in boston, new bedford, or either; c) whether you have a car that you can use to carpool; and d) whether you speak spanish.

more info on events is available at the mira coalition's web site: http://www.miracoalition.org/ , and at the boston may day coalition's site: http://www.bostonmayday.org/index.html.

Minority Survey of Law Student Experience
Dear APALSA:

As some of you might know, the Law School Minority Report is a web site devoted to assisting minority law school applicants with the application process, featuring a unique, school-by-school Minority Report about law schools, based on a survey of minority law students across the country. Last year, approximately 3,000 students from approximately 170 law schools completed our survey, and based on those results, we compiled our first Report, available on our site, at www.lawschoolminorityreport.com.
With lawfirms sponsors including the international firms Cravath, Swaine & Moore and Cleary Gottlieb, our site is quickly becoming the source of information concerning minority student issues at law schools.
To ensure your school and group is included this year, please take the survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=843013268446
