Dear 1Ls-

Below is a letter from Warner, Norcross and Judd, a large firm in Michigan. If you are from the area, I suggest applying. They are specifically looking for 1L students of color. Please contact Nina Modi for more information if you are interested.

TO: Minority 1L Students Interested in Clerking At One Of "America's Greatest Places To Work With A Law Degree"

RE: "Fun, Pride and Profit"

Warner Norcross & Judd offers the rare combination of a sophisticated practice that still leaves time for a life outside of the office. As a result, we are one of two firms in Michigan, and one of only 115 firms in the nation to be named in America's Greatest Places To Work With A Law Degree.

Forty percent of the firm's partners are listed in The Best Lawyers in America. We are currentlyaccepting resumes from 1L students interested in 2007 summer clerkships in any of our four Michigan offices – Metro Detroit (Southfield), Grand Rapids, Muskegon or Holland.

Our Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion

Warner Norcross & Judd LLP strives to have a workforce that reflects the realities of today's diverse national and global community. We recognize that the differences in heritage, culture, and perspective that each individual brings to WNJ make us better able to serve the needs of our clients. We also understand that our respect for and understanding of those differences makes our firm a better and more collegial place to work. You can learn more about our firm's commitment to diversity by reading our 2006 Diversity Annual Report on our website at www.wnj.com. While on the site, you may also wish to learn more about our $5000 scholarship to minority law students and print an application.

The Warner Difference

Our summer associates and attorneys possess credentials that rival those of their counterparts at leading national law firms. They came to Warner Norcross for the quality of our practice, the depth and breadth of our national client base, for firm policies that foster collegiality and balance, and for the exceptional quality of life in Michigan. That combination is difficult, if not impossible, to find in a large law firm in a large city.

Warner Norcross differs from most large law firms in several significant ways. Associates and summer associates choose their own areas of practice and are not slotted into groups. Our lockstep compensation system eliminates internal competition for hours and clients, making the work environment a very collegial one. With our extensive Career Development Program, a full time Director of Professional Development, and our policies that address life/balance issues, WNJ is committed to helping its associates develop into leading members of the profession and partners in the firm.

Our summer class of 2006 was composed of 22 summer associates from ten different law schools, including five minority students and 12 women. As a summer associate at Warner Norcross, you won't be bored and you won't be stuck in the library. Our program allows you to explore all areas of our practice and does not limit you to one or two practice groups during the summer or when you receive a permanent offer. Work assignments are channeled through a central system to ensure that you'll get work from a variety of practice areas, especially the areas in which you have an interest. It also ensures that you will receive feedback on all your work.

We Would Like to Hear from You

Although we are not able to visit your campus this fall, we hope you will send us your resume. To apply for a clerkship, please send a cover letter, your resume and a copy of your law school transcript to me at the following address or by email. I look forward to hearing from you!
