2. New York Civil Liberties Union Summer 2009 Legal Internship
The New York Civil Liberties Union, the New York state affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, seeks current law students for summer 2009 legal internships (unpaid).
The NYCLU is one of the nation's foremost defenders of civil liberties and civil rights. Founded in 1951 as the New York affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union, the NYCLU is a not-for-profit, nonpartisan organization with eight offices and approximately 50,000 members statewide. The NYCLU defends the rights and freedoms embodied in the state and federal constitutions. We focus on freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to privacy, reproductive rights, disability rights, youth and student rights, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights, voting rights, and the protections afforded those who come into contact with the criminal justice system. The NYCLU engages in various forms of advocacy, including litigation and public education.
Applicants should have a commitment to public interest law and to civil liberties. Please send a resume, cover letter, two references, and writing sample to:

Positions will be filled on a rolling basis beginning in the fall semester. Second-year law students should apply as soon as possible; first-year law students as soon after December 1 as possible. No applications submitted after February 27, 2009 will be reviewed.
