1. Office Hours

Christine (VP-Internal): Christine will be having office hours this Monday
(tomorrow), November 17 from 1pm to 2pm in the APALSA Office.

Kim (President): Kim will be holding her office hours this Wednesday,
November 19, from 1pm to 2pm in the APALSA Office.

2. CANCELED: APALSA General Body Meeting

APALSA's 2nd general body meeting, which was to be held on Tuesday, November
18 has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts with the 1L class. We will
keep you posted once a replacement date has been determined. Thanks for
your understanding!

3. BCLS Japanese Language Table

Calling all Japanese speakers and Nikkeijin... come speak Japanese and eat
sushi with us! ^_^ /~ We're going to Fin's in Brighton this coming Monday,
Nov. 17 (7pm) to alleviate our shared school stress and our craving for
Japanese food! If you can't come this time and are interested in doing more
stuff with us, please contact Mike Saji, saji@bc.edu, and we'll add you to
the list.

4. Documentary Screening--Unnatural Causes: Is Inequality Making Us Sick?

Episode: "Bad sugar"
Followed by a discussion led by BCLS Professor Jon Witten (Land Use
Planning, American Indian Law)
What: O'odham Indians living on reservations in southern Arizona have
perhaps the highest rates of Type 2 diabetes in the world. Increasingly,
researchers are reconceptualizing chronic diseases like diabetes as a bodily
response to poverty, oppression and futurelessness. A new approach suggests
that regaining control over a collective future is vital to reversing this
epidemic.

5. Conference: Gender Equality in Times of Economic Stress

On Thursday, November 20, 2008, the Equality Commission will present a
conference entitled "Gender Equality in Times of Economic Stress" at Suffolk
University Law School, featuring Cynthia Thomas Calvert, co-director of the
Project for Attorney Retention and general counsel of the Center for
WorkLife Law at U.C. Hastings School of Law and Judge Nancy Gertner of the
U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, among others.

This conference will examine the challenges and opportunities for
professional advancement facing women attorneys. Please see the attached
registration form if you are interested in attending.

6. 1L Diversity Fellowship Program at Fish & Richardson

Fish & Richardson is pleased to announce its 1L Diversity Fellowship Program
for 2009. The program, which offers fellowships to five diverse first year
law students, is a key component of our ongoing firm initiative to recruit,
retain, and advance attorneys who will contribute to the diversity of our
practice and of the legal profession.

Our 1L Diversity Fellowship Program is comprised of three components:
mentoring, a $5,000 scholarship, and a paid summer associate position in the
domestic office of the student's choice.
- Applications for the 2009 fellowship will be accepted from December 1, 2008 through January 16, 2009.
