1. APALSA Office Hours

Christine (APALSA VP-Internal): Christine will be having office hours this Monday, October 20 from 3 PM to 4 PM in the APALSA Office.

Kim (President): Kim will be holding her weekly office hours this Wednesday, October 22, and every Wednesday, from 1 PM to 2 PM in the APALSA Office.

2. NALSA Mashantucket Puquot Museum Trip

We invite you to join us for a trip to the Mashantucket Pequot Museum at Foxwoods Resort and Casino!!!

The Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center, a new state-of-the-art, tribally owned-and-operated complex, brings to life the story of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, and serves as a major resource on the history of the Tribe, the histories and cultures of other tribes, and the region's natural history.

When: Saturday, October 25th

Itinerary: We will leave on Saturday around 11:30am, and visit the Museum in the early afternoon. You are welcome to join us at Foxwoods for dinner, and after dinner you are free to enjoy Foxwoods on your own if you wish.

Transportation: Depending on the number of people who want to go, we will either carpool or take a bus from South Station.

Cost: All Museum fees will be covered by NALSA. Dinner and transportation costs (unless we carpool) will not be paid for by NALSA (Rountrip bus tickets will range from $10-$15).

If you would like to join us for a super fun time, please RSVP by Monday, October 20th to Amanda at gordonaj@bc.edu. Please indicate if you would need a ride if we were to carpool when you RSVP. Thank you!!

3. 2008 Boston Asian American Film Festival (BAAFF)

We highly encourage you to take advantage of the Boston Asian American Film Festival, which is going on this entire week. For the full schedule, film descriptions, ticket prices and to purchase tickets, please go to the BAAFF website: http://aarw.org/baaff2008/ or see the attached poster.

We specifically recommend the following movies:

Vincent Who? - Saturday, October 25 @ 2 PM at Northeastern University
Synopsis: In 1982, Vincent Chin was murdered in Detroit by two white autoworkers at the height of anti-Japanese sentiments. For the first time, Asian Americans around the country galvanized to form a real community and movement. This documentary, inspired by a series of town halls organized by Asian Pacific Americans for Progress on the 25th anniversary of the case, features interviews with the key players at the time, as well as a whole new generation of activists including five diverse young APA activists whose lives were impacted by Vincent Chin.. "Vincent Who?" asks how far Asian Americans have come since then and how far we have yet to go.

In attendance will be, producer and co-director Curtis Chin (featured in the documentary) is an award-winning writer and producer who has worked for ABC, NBC, Disney Channel and more. As a community activist, he co-founded the Asian American Writers Workshop and Asian Pacific Americans for Progress. A Q&A will follow the screening, and is being held in conjunction with the LEAP conference.

West 32nd - Saturday, October 25 @ 8 PM at Harvard University

Synopsis: "West 32nd" takes the cameras inside New York's gritty Korean underworld. After hustling his way onto a homicide case, attorney John Kim (John Cho - Harold & Kumar) finds himself thrust into a sordid world of hard realities and moral compromises after he is taken under the wing of a ruthless Korean gangster who knows no limits.
