You are cordially invited to celebrate Diwali!!!

Diwali or Deepavali, the most significant Hindu festival in India, is an occasion for the invocation of the Gods of prosperity and plenty. Diwali means "rows of lighted lamps" and the celebration is often referred to as the Festival of Lights. It symbolizes the victory of righteousness and the lifting of spiritual darkness. It celebrates the victory of good over evil - and the glory of light. Lights and diyas are lit to signifying the driving away of darkness and ignorance, as well as the awakening of the light within ourselves. Diwali is a time for family gatherings, food, celebration and puja . The celebration means as much to Hindus as Christmas does to Christians. In some regions, Diwali also signifies the arrival of the New Year.

November 7th Voter Monitoring Volunteering

Hey APALSA, a big election is coming up soon, and a great opportunity to help make sure the voting rights of our fellow Americans are safeguarded. Basically, we will be polling voters to see that the proper language materials and other necessary measures for voting are available for those who might speak English as a second language. The details about the training session and polling location need to be ironed out, but are largely dependant on how many volunteers we get. So, if you are interested please let us know SOON!

Email anthony.nguyen.3@bc.edu and he will send you a volunteer form if you are interested in volunteering. Either print out a form and hand it to any APALSA officer, or feel free to complete
it electronically, and email it back to Anthony.
